Browser Customisation
You can customise your browser to make it easier
for you to use the internet. Please follow the instructions below
for the latest PC internet browsers. This should work on most websites.
If you have problems changing your settings, use the Help menu in
your browser toolbar.
Changing text size
How to make the text larger in your web browser
- below you will find a step-by-step guide to enlarging the text
in your internet browser. These instructions are for use with the
browser versions listed below, however they may also work with other
versions of the same web browser.
Microsoft Internet Explorer - all versions
- Open your Internet Explorer web browser.
- Choose the drop down menu at the top of the window of the browser
marked "view" (or press 'Alt' and 'V').
- A list of options will appear in the drop down menu, choose "text
size" (or press 'X').
- Next another drop down menu should appear with options including "small", "medium", "large", "largest".
- Select "largest" (or use the 'up' and 'down' arrows to select
and press 'Enter').
Mozilla Firefox - all versions
- Open your Firefox web browser.
- Hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard and press the plus
(+) key.
- You will find that this will enlarge the text, to enlarge again
repeat the procedure.
- Keep repeating until the text is enlarged to your requirements.
- If you need to make the text smaller press ctrl on your keyboard
and the minus (-) key.
The text in your browser window should now appear
larger.
Apple Safari - all versions
- Open your Apple Safari web browser.
- Hold down the Apple Key and press the (+) key.
- You will find that this will enlarge the text, to enlarge again
repeat the procedure.
- Keep repeating until the text is enlarged to your requirements.
- If you need to make the text smaller press the Apple Key on
your keyboard and press the (-) key.
The text in your browser window should now appear
larger.
Other Customisation For Browsers
Internet Explorer Instructions
Permanently Apply Font And Colour Change
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet
Options'
- On the General tab, select 'Accessibility'
- Click on the three boxes to show ticks
- Click on 'OK'
Change Text And Background Colour
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet
Options'
- On the General tab, select 'Colour'
- Deselect the 'Use Windows Colours'
tick box
- Select the box next to 'Text' and choose
a colour
- Click on 'OK'
- Select the box next to 'Background'
and choose a colour
- Click on 'OK'
Prevent Graphics And Images Appearing
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet
Options'
- On the Advanced tab, scroll down to
the 'Multimedia' heading
- Deselect the graphics options 'animations',
'videos', 'pictures' and 'images' by clicking on the boxes
to remove the ticks
- Click on 'Apply' then 'OK'
Change The Size Of The Window
- On the browser View menu select 'Full
screen' or press F11
Change The Colour Of The Links Displayed
On A Screen
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet
Options'
- On the General tab, select 'Accessibility'
- Click on 'Select ignore colours specified
on Web pages' (should contain a tick)
- Click 'OK'
- Select 'General' tab and click on 'Colours'
- Turn off the 'Use hover colours' tick
box (should not contain a tick)
- Select 'Visited' and choose the colour
that suits you best, Click OK
- Select 'Not Visited' and choose the
colour that suits you best, Click OK
- Select 'OK' for 'Colours'
- Select 'OK' for 'Internet Options'
Other Options
Other options such as removing animation are available:
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Internet
Options'
- On the Advanced tab choose any of the
options available to improve the visibility of the web pages.
If you have any
problems changing your browser settings, use the Help menu in
your browser toolbar.
Firefox Instructions
Adjust Font Face and Size
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Options'
- On the Content tab, select 'Advanced'
button
- Select the font face and size of your
choosing
- IMPORTANT: Deselect the box "Allow
pages to choose their own fonts....."
- Click on 'OK', and then 'OK' again.
Adjust Colours for Fonts, Background and
Links
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Options'
- On the Content tab, select 'Colours'

- Select the colours of the elements
you wish to change
- IMPORTANT: Deselect the box "Allow
pages to choose their own colours....."
- Click on 'OK', and then 'OK' again.
Prevent Graphics and Images Appearing
- On the browser Tools menu select 'Options'
- On the Content tab, deselect the 'Load
images automatically' box
- Click on 'OK', and then 'OK' again.
