What's On The Course?

This Level 3 Extended Diploma will provide you with the skills required to work professionally in the music technology industry or to progress into Higher Education to study Music Technology. The course has a largely practical focus and but provides a grounding in the theory of technology as it is used by the music industry.

You will have opportunities to make sound recordings and learn how to use new technologies. You will realise your creative ideas through the use of industry standard software and professional recording equipment. Tutors on the course will often use their professional expertise to help you understand the music industry and will guide you when you create your own music.

There are no formal examinations on this course but you will be expected to build a portfolio of work that demonstrates your skills as a music technologist.

Who Is It Suitable For?

Students interested in a career in the music technology industry.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

For the Extended Diploma (2 years) you will need a minimum of:

i) 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language/Literature (or L2 functional literacy) and Music,
ii) or a Level 2 Diploma in Music (Merit) + 2 GCSEs grade A*-C,
iii) or a Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music (Merit) + 3 GCSEs grade A*-C,

plus at least a grade D in GCSE Maths (or L1 functional numeracy pass).

For the Subsidiary Diploma (1 year) you will need a minimum of:

i) 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C including English Language/Literature (or L2 functional literacy) and Music,
ii) or a Level 2 Diploma in Music (Pass) + 1 GCSE grade A*-C,
iii) or a Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music (Pass) + 2 GCSEs grade A*-C,

plus at least a grade E in GCSE Maths.

All applicants will be expected to perform an audition, details of which are on our website.

What Can I Do Next?

On completion of a Level 3 Extended Diploma it is possible for the students to progress onto Higher Education, to study Degree and Foundation Degree subjects.
