What's On The Course?

The Level 3 Certificate in Music Technology (Production) is a 30 Credit qualification that consists of one mandatory unit and two optional units.

The mandatory unit is Music Production Techniques. Optional units will be drawn from a list that may include: Live Sound Techniques, Sequencing Systems and Techniques, Sound Creation and Manipulation, The Sound and Music Industry and Music Technology in Performance. Note: unit choices may change depending on staff availability.

Why Study Music Technology Production?
The BTEC Level 3 Certificate offers a specialist qualification that focuses on the vocational and practical skills associated with working with Music Technology to either gain entry into employment within the sector or to go on to further study in Higher Education. The BTEC Level 3 Certificate is equivalent to one AS-Level.

Please note: This BTEC Level 3 Certificate has to be studied as part of an A-Level programme, alongside 3 other subjects. Please do not apply for this course by itself. If you want to study a vocational course at Level 3 then please consider the Level 3 Extended Diploma which is a full-time course in its own right.

Who Is It Suitable For?

A-Level students who wish to also gain a vocational and practical qualification alongside their academic programme of study.

What Are The Entry Requirements?

For the Advanced Dual Pathway you will require five GCSE passes at grades A*to C, including English Language/Literature, and at least a grade D in Maths. For the Academic Advanced Pathway you will need five GCSEs (2Bs, 3Cs) including English Language/Literature and Maths.

Some understanding of Music and ability to play an Instrument is also required.

What Other Subjects Can I Study With This Course?

Students can study this Certificate alongside 3 AS-Levels. You will need to carefully consider your choices to ensure your subject combination meets the progression requirements for your chosen degree programme.

What Can I Do Next?

If you study a Level 3 Certificate you will have the option of progressing to the Subsidiary Diploma (One A-Level equivalent) through a second year of study.

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma In Music Technology (Production) extends the specialist vocational work-related focus from the BTEC Level 3 Certificate and covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the Creative Music Industries and Higher Education.

It is a 60 Credit Qualification that consists of one 10 Credit Mandatory unit, one 10 Credit Specialist unit and optional units to the value of 40 Credits.

The Mandatory unit is Music Production Techniques. The Specialist unit is selected from Sequencing Systems and Techniques (Unit 32) and Sound Creation and Manipulation (Unit 35). There are a further 12 optional units from which to chose.
