South Cheshire College is delighted to announce another outstanding Ofsted inspection for the third successive time. The high-flying Crewe College, which was inspected in March, has been judged to be outstanding in all aspects of its provision. Following the two-day inspection top grades were awarded for the College's Effectiveness of Provision, Capacity to Improve, Achievement of Standards, Quality of Provision and Leadership and Management. There was also a contributory Grade 1 awarded for the College's provision of Equality and Opportunity.
The announcement builds on outstanding Ofsted inspections in 1999 and 2004 which put South Cheshire College firmly on the map and reinforces its status as one of the leading tertiary and sixth form colleges nationally. In 1999 the College achieved seven Grade Ones and achieved 13 Grade Ones across all curriculum areas in 2004. In 2008 the College, which announced its best A-Level pass-rate of 99.8% in 2007, was deemed to be outstanding in all aspects of its provision while achievement and standards were also top class.
On courses at Levels 1, 2 and 3 students exceed the national average by more than 10 per cent. The quality of teaching and learning was also found to be outstanding with learners making excellent progress and being encouraged to achieve highly through challenging targets. Leadership and management were found to have a clear vision for the strategic development of the College and support quality arrangements that are successful in improving and sustaining improvements in success rates.
The excellent Ofsted announcement coincides with College Principal Dr David Collins' appointment as the new president of the Association of Colleges (AoC). Dr Collins CBE said: "This latest inspection is another wonderful achievement for the College and to receive outstanding grades for all areas is a magnificent achievement. This perfect result is down to the hard work of all staff over a considerable period of time. I feel extremely proud to be Principal of the sector's top college."
The College has also demonstrated an outstanding capacity to improve by sustaining and increasing its high success rates and key strengths. New appointments have also been made to strengthen the management of the College and good progress has also been made each year to improve the quality of Key Skills.
Peter Swift, Director of Studies and Deputy Principal, said: "The College continues to go from strength-to-strength and this latest Ofsted inspection reflects that. "The fact that we have received outstanding grades is due to the hard work of teaching and support staff. We are delighted with the result."
