Cheshire College is the first FE College to date to achieve seven
grade ones in the second round of the Further Education Funding
Council Inspections.
The FEFC Inspection report pays tribute to the remarkable success
of the College by placing all the College's provision in the top
two categories of "outstanding"
and "good". Furthermore 83% of all lessons observed were deemed
to be outstanding or good, as compared to the current average of
65% for all colleges inspected so far.
Said College Principal, Dr David Collins: :We are absolutely delighted
with the report which clearly shows how successful the College
is in meeting the needs of its local community. It is a tribute
to the hard work over a number of years of both staff and students".
The College was inspected during the week beginning 22 February
1999 and was carried out by 13 inspectors and an auditor working
for a total of 55 days. Inspectors observed 93 lessons and examined
students' work and college documents as well as interviewing students,
managers, staff, governors and representatives of local schools.
The report describes the College as "highly successful", and "particularly
well managed" with "
a comprehensive range of support for students", and some "outstanding" achievements"
The College's productive links with local schools and employers
were also highlighted along with the "high priority" that the college
gives to teaching and learning and its "well-established culture
of quality improvement"
The FEFC went on to comment that " The College cares for its students
and they value this".
Commented Dr Collins "At the end of the day we are here to serve
the local community and provide the best opportunities we can for
all our students, It is very rewarding to see the hard work of
students and staff recognised in this way"
