Colleges Week 2008

South Cheshire College was proud to take part in the inaugural Colleges Week in November 2008 which celebrated the role colleges play in unlocking talent in communities and transforming the lives of learners. Students from different corners of the college were involved in a full week of activities from areas including art and design, construction and hospitality and catering.
Community Challenge - Tuesday 11th November
Painting and decorating students kicked off the Colleges Week activities by giving a makeover to Marshfield Bank Community Centre in Crewe. They painted the halls and ceiling at the centre and while the work was being done residents were treated to lunch at college provided by hospitality and catering students, hair dos provided by hairdressing students and a bingo session hosted by health and social care students. Full details.

School ICT Day - Wednesday 12th November
Pupils from a number of local high schools took part in an ICT day at college where they learnt more about the latest technology in a number of different fields. The week was organised by the College's employer engagement and schools liaison teams and was supported by industry representatives and local businesses. Full details.

Parliamentary Visits - Wednesday 12th November and Thursday 13th November
Further Education Minister Sion Simon and Crewe and Nantwich Conservative MP Edward Timpson both gave their backing to Colleges Week by calling in to speak to staff and students. Sion met Access students and students on apprenticeship programmes while Edward met with A-Level students and enjoyed a tour around the College site. Full details.

Skills Challenge - Friday 14th November
The week ended with a spectacular Skills Challenge which saw over 100 art and design students from different courses create one of the longest pieces of artwork ever produced in a day in Cheshire, while hospitality students created patisserie masterpieces in a challenge of their own. Both challenges were a race against the clock but students completed them in style. Full details.
