Students Benefit From Prosthetist's Visit
Helen Hill, a Prosthetist at Haywood Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent, dropped into South Cheshire College to chat to students working towards the FDa in Sports Coaching and Fitness.
The visits helped students to gain a better understanding of issues which relate to disability sport as part of their course.
Helen's role is to meet with patients who have problems with their limbs and fit artificial limbs once people have had limbs amputated.
Helen brought some examples of artificial limbs with her and also explained to the group about how false limbs are delivered, fitted and how adjustments and repairs are carried out.
Helen said: "I've visited high schools in the area but this was my first visit to South Cheshire College.
"Hopefully, students found my visit useful and it has given them a better insight into artificial limbs and amputations."
Sports Lecturer Chris Hollinshead said: "We were delighted to welcome Helen to the College and she gave a very informative talk about her role at the hospital.
"Guest speakers and the knowledge they pass is important for all sports courses and students have definitely benefited from it."
