Furniture Sale Boosts Global Millennium Appeal

Kind-hearted employees are throwing their weight behind an international charity by snapping up furniture in a quick-fire sale.

Staff at South Cheshire College are being invited to a 'look and load' sale in the Somerville building which will be the first to be demolished as part of the college's new build project.

Items up for grabs include chairs, tables, cabinets, notice boards, office furniture, lamps and other equipment which will go to waste if it is not claimed this week.

All the furniture has been marked up with price tags, starting at £1 per item, and all proceeds from the sale will go to the Scott Wilson Millennium Project.

The project is a registered charity set-up to help youngsters in developing countries around the world and focuses on the relief of poverty, hardship and distress among children.

Since the project started in 2000, it has raised more than £90,000 through staff donations and has provided support to children's projects in more than a dozen countries.

The latest project is The Scott Wilson School in Mozambique - a school for 200 children which will help children to raise themselves and their family from poverty and give hope to a whole new community.

Jenny Harris, New Build Planning Co-ordinator, said: "We are delighted to be able to support a project of this nature, particularly if it helps to make a difference to the lives of children across the globe.

"Our aim is to reduce the amount of waste going to land-fill and help a charity to benefit at the same time."

"The Somerville building has to be completely stripped before it is demolished and this is an excellent way of removing items and raising cash for a good cause at the same time."

Local schools also had the opportunity to claim items of furniture earlier this week before remaining furniture was made available to college staff.

Lak Sriwardene, Head of Corporate Communications at the Scott Wilson Millennium Project, said: "We are very pleased that South Cheshire College is staging this sale to raise money for us.

"We ensure that donations are used in the most effective way possible and ensure that every donation makes a difference."
